Minecraft/Mojang/Blog News! (274/365)

Good day to all you people out there! Today is Sunday which means it is time for another News segment. In the news this week we had a surprise snapshot from Dinnerbone, Minecon tickets sold out in a blink of an eye once again, and the Xbox edition passes 4 million sales.” Also in the news, our blog broke record after record this week and we have some special posts in progress. Let us begin.

This was the snapshot that was never meant to be. Jeb was out on vacation this week, so it was reported that there would be no new snapshot. However, Dinnerbone decided to give us a nice surprise and release a new one anyway. There were no new items in this snapshot. However, we do have a brand-spanking new lighting system now!

You know all of these stupid dark regions that aren’t supposed to be dark? Well, they are finally fixing it! You won’t see these dark areas anymore!

There are other various fixes with the lighting. Mainly including light passing through small quarter or half block openings (from using stairs, half slabs, and those kind of things). However, there are still a couple problems that they are trying to work through. Other than that, there aren’t many exciting things about this snapshot. Oh well, onto the next bit o’ news!

Also, Dinnerbone said that the 1.4, “Pretty Scary Update,” would very likely come out before Halloween! Just a few more weeks, and we can start killing Withers, witches, and zombies…with armor and swords.

“That’sss a very nice batch of tickets you have there…Sssssssssss”

Last Monday Mojang released yet another batch of tickets to Minecon which will be held at Disneyland, Paris in late November. Based on Minecon’s popularity and the short time it took to sell out the other batches of tickets, it did not come as a surprise to learn that the latest batch was sold out not too long after they were released. While it wasn’t a surprise to anyone, it was very disappointing to those who wanted a ticket but couldn’t get one. Unfortunately for those people, there has been no talk of anymore tickets being released in the near future. And the Minecon website says…

“All the tickets are sold out! We probably won’t release more but if we do, it will be announced right here at least a day before.”

That’s too bad. Well, there’s always next year.

This just in…the ever-popular Xbox 360 edition for Minecraft has just passed 4 million sales. Holy crap.

How long ago was it released? Some time in May wasn’t it? That’s pretty impressive.

Congrats to Mojang, 4J Studios, and whoever else is involved with the Xbox edition for this great accomplishment! And be sure to keep your eyes out for the next update, it should come out sort of soon, and we will let you know once we have an official release date.

That’s all we have for this week’s Minecraft and Mojang news. Now, Tyler and I have some very special news regarding our blog.

Today is September 30th, which means we have come to the end of yet another month in our 365 project. It has had its ups and downs, but things have gone fairly well in the last 9 months. This is our first full month when we have had to deal with college though. And that has been a bit difficult, but we have acclimated and we have a new system for making posts which makes things significantly easier.

Anyways, something happened on our blog this past week which has inspired us even more to push through these next few months, and then some. We still don’t have a solid plan for the post-365 era, but we still plan on making posts. Just not as much, maybe about 2-4 posts per week. We’ll see what happens.

I just got sort of off-topic there. So, this thing that happened was that our blog got an extremely high amount of views all of a sudden. This was very similar to the event in April as well, which I refer to as “The Great Surge of April.” Our high prior to this latest surge was in the low-200s. Now, our high is somewhere in the mid-500s. Awesome!

Our expected (because the day isn’t over yet) average for this month is about 218, up from 136 last month. This was not our goal which I mysteriously wrote about last week, however, that goal is much more attainable now. Also, we passed 20,000 total views on Friday. Thank you so much for helping us break all these records!

Our last bit of news for today is just to inform you that we are working on some cool posts. One post in particular will be especially awesome, but it’s a secret. Tyler is also working on some mod reviews, and I would like to apologize for the lack of mod reviews the last two weeks.

Aside from all of that, I don’t think there is anything more to talk about today. Thanks for reading, Happy Mining, and go punch a skeleton (yes, that was random, I just hate them so much)!
