Click inside the red square. I dare you.

I can’t stress enough just how awesome of an idea this is. For a long time I had looked for something just like this, while looking for a way for Jonah and I to work together on posts. As much as we wanted to rent a server then, we didn’t have the money or the methods to do so just yet. Since Riley had offered to host a server on his computer, we had initially agreed out of need.

Sadly, hosting a server for three people and playing on it is a lot of stress for even a good computer like his. We moved onto an old computer of Jonah’s, the one he had played before he got a new computer. We used that for awhile, although even that didn’t last long. Whether it was the lag from the computer, or Jonah’s internet that would cut out, we needed a different server. I suppose if a computer can barely handle  Minecraft, it definitely can’t handle a server.

Eventually we moved onto an old computer of mine, one that was only slightly worse than mine.(This was before my new beast of a computer) Sadly, after a few weeks the computer crapped out and we had to move on.

Thankfully, at this time, I had a credit card and we were able to rent a server from Exodushosting. We still use them for all of our posts, and playing some Minecraft for fun naturally. During that time, it would have been awesome to have a free server.

Although we no longer need a free server(For posts at least), some people want a server where they can try somethings out and create something awesome. Free Mc is just that. A chance to play with friends for free! Why not.

Registering is easy enough. Create a free account,(If you already have an enjiin account, then just log in with that. Create a post about why you want a server, how long you have played Minecraft and all that jazz. Reply to the other forums and you are golden. You are now entered to win a free server for a month.

I wish you the best of luck, and maybe we’ll see you on your server sometime!

Remember: The winners will be announced on February 28th and this is where you can apply.

We are also applying, and assuming we win one, we will finally have a real server for our fans to play on.

Minecraft Tip #25 (213/365)

So you want to set up a server. You want a place to wage war with your friends, build massive cities and sculptures, share your creations with the world, and defeat the enderdragon? Well, just how do you plan to do this? You downloaded the server application, but you have no clue where to go from there. No worries. Today, in this little tip, I will give you advice on how to set up the easiest server, the hamachi server.

First off, you will need to download and install hamachi from here. (Download the unmanaged version)

Next up, you will want to download the server.exe folder from minecraft.net. This file here is the most important file of them all. This file will be used to turn on the server.

Now that you have everything, first off you will want to open up Hamachi. Opening up Hamachi it will look pretty blank. Click the power network to open it up, and it will prompt you to either join, or create a Hamachi network. Create one now.

Make sure to remember the network and password. This is very important!

So you now have a network set up. That’s good, although you need a little bit more before your server is ready. Double-click the server.exe folder,(or server.jar in some cases) and your server will initiate. It is a good idea to create a folder, and put the server.exe folder in there before you click it, as there are a plethora of files created that can clutter up your desktop.

Now that the server is up, you will see a window pop up. This window is the main control of the server. Here you can op people, ban them, do all that stuff. You can even make public announcements by typing in the window.

Due to what I typed, I made myself an operator of the server. I can change my own gamemode, (from creative to survival) and spawn items for myself or others. I basically make myself a god of this server. Time for a full Diamond house baby!

Next up, you want to open up the server.properties file in your newly created folder. Right-click, select properties, and select, “open with.” You will want to open the program with Notepad, the only program universal across all versions of windows and other computers. Once you open it up, you come upon the server properties file. Here you can configure all of the constraints of this server.

This is what the server.properties files looks like when opened by notepad.

Next up, you are going to want to edit a few things. You may want to change the name of the world, whether you can visit the nether or not. Do you want pvp? Do you want it to be a survival server or a creative? How many players do you want? You may want to change players to 5, as 5 is the max offered by Hamachi.

In the end, your file should look something like this. You have one last step to do. Take the Ipv4 address from your Hamachi client, and put it into the server-ip section. Add the server port, normally 25565, and that will be your Minecraft server ip.

Now you have a server. All you need to do is turn on the server by using the server.exe file. A few precautions. Running a server is very taxing on weaker systems, so only use if you know your computer can handle it. Unless you have a very powerful computer, you shouldn’t play on the same system as you are running the server. Don’t run a server on a laptop. Not a good idea. Other than that, enjoy your new Minecraft life with your closest friends.

That’s all for now. Hope you enjoyed. Happy Mining!

Welcome To Prison, Minecraft Prison That Is! (207/365)

Hello everyone. Today, I’d like to introduce everyone out there to a different type of Minecraft server, The Jail Server!

As you may guess, this server takes place in, well, Jail. When you first spawn into a prison server, you will usually end up in ‘C’ block, or something related to that. ‘C’ block is the lowest rank that you can be. This is where all of the new players are, all the action, and all the killing. In order to advance to a higher block you must collect materials and sell them for money. In each block there are usually a few different ways to make money. I’ll share more on that later. ‘B’ block is higher up and there are better perks and mines in ‘B’ block versus in ‘C’ block. Then comes ‘A’ block, followed by the ‘Elites’ and finally freedom. Once you are at the ‘Free’ rank, you can now go where you want, build a house of your own, and do whatever the heck you want. To a point anyway.

How to advance:

In order to advance to the next block, and earn money, you must collect materials. There are two different “mines” that you can farm for stuff to sell. There is usually a tree farm on these servers, but they always have a mine. Here you collect materials to sell and earn money. Different Jail servers will have different rules, and different mines, but they all have the same premise, or gist. You must work your way out of jail.

‘C’ Block

‘C’ Block tree farm.

The mine.

And the shops. Here you sell all your materials for money, and you can also buy materials here too!

The Rules:

In prison servers there are rules, and there are also not rules. To elaborate let’s explain shall I?

Most prison servers have two different ‘modes’ if you will. When there are guards on the server, or guards are logged in, there is peace, and any fights are put to an end quickly. If you do ‘illegal’ things when there are guards on, they will find you and put you into jail. Or rather, a jail within jail. Jailception if you will.

Guards can sense fear.

When there are no guards on, that’s when the fun happens. Things go crazy, people fight and kill each other. There are devious plans set up, and all that fun stuff. With an exception. In the mines, a player is safe from attack. Most of the time. Some advice for first-comers. When you first start the server, my advice would be to run to the mines, running from everyone. At least until you learn who is a guard and who isn’t.

Occasionally on some of these servers, you can find a blackmarket where you can buy the ‘unobtainable’ stuff. Like Diamonds, flint and steel, swords, etc. All that fun stuff.

Press the button, I dare you.

As a side note, it can take a really long time to work your ways up the ranks. Although, once you get past the ‘C’ block area, it becomes progressively easier.

Until Tomorrow! Happy Mining!
